10 days after an Ottumwa man was stabbed to death, police say an arrest has been made.
Gary Lewis Scott, 60, of Ottumwa has been charged with:
Murder in the 1st Degree, a Class “A” Felony
Willful Injury, a Class “C” Felony
Assault While Participating in a Felony, a Class “C” Felony
Going Armed With Intent, a Class “D” Felony
On October 16, Ottumwa police responded to a residence on South Ward Street based on the report of a stabbing. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Samuel Gallegos Ramirez of Ottumwa, was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Scott was arrested on October 26. Police say preliminary information at the scene of the incident did not immediately identify all of the circumstances that led to the death of Gallegos-Ramirez. Investigators were eventually able to identify that an altercation took place between Scott and Gallegos-Ramirez which resulted in the filing of the criminal charges.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisted the Ottumwa Police Department with the case.
