Heidi Lynn Belzer (63) went home to the Lord on July 4, 2023, at her Batavia home with her family by her side. As were Heidi’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Christ’s Church, 12627 River Rd., Ottumwa, IA with Pastor Mike York officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church and will last until the time of service. Memorial contributions in Heidi’s honor may be directed to the Living Hope Bible Church Preschool in Eldon, IA. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Heidi was born June 3, 1960, to Skeeter and Geri Hidy. Heidi loved spending time with friends and their many family camping trips. After graduation from Cardinal High School in 1978, Heidi attended Northeast Missouri State University where she graduated with her degree in Elementary Education in 1982. Heidi was an active member of the Campus Christian House, and often recounted stories from her missions trip she took part in; including going door to door in New York City.

Heidi married Randy Belzer on July 17, 1982 at Meadowbrook Christian Church in Kirksville, MO. They were blessed with four children and four grandchildren. Heidi taught for 29 years and impacted so many lives during that time. She taught at Green City Elementary, SIEDA Head Start, Living Hope Bible Church Preschool, and Cardinal Elementary School. Heidi was an avid reader and loved collecting dolls and visiting doll shows with her mom and Aunt Marion Shriver.

Heidi was an active member of The Church Ottumwa and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandkids.

Heidi is survived by her husband of 40 years, Randy; her children Lauren (Steve) Stone, Jerrod (Courtney) Belzer, Melissa (Bryan) Hartmann, Hannah Belzer; her father Skeeter Hidy; brothers John (Shirley) Hidy, Jim (Angie) Hidy; sisters Karla (Philip) Fitzsimmons, Lynn (Joe) Hermann; and her 4 grandchildren, Bailey Belzer, and Elliot, Oliver and Levi Stone; and many nieces and nephews.

Heidi was preceded in death by her mother, Geri Hidy; grandparents Lawrence and Clara Ratliff, Robert and Alice Hidy; Uncle Robert and Aunt Marion Shriver.

Heidi will be especially remembered for her kind and gentle spirit which served to strengthen everyone she met.
