An Ottumwa man faces numerous felonies after authorities found multiple guns in his possession.
34-year-old Brant Cassatt has been charged with five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony.
On June 14, Ottumwa police observed Cassatt, who had an active warrant for his arrest, entering and exiting a storage unit on Gateway Drive, according to court records. After taking Cassatt into custody, authorities executed a search of Cassatt’s vehicle and storage unit.
Court documents say police found three shotguns and a rifle in the storage unit. Another shotgun and 2.4 grams of methamphetamine were allegedly found in the vehicle. Cassatt was convicted of a felony in 2017 and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Cassatt was transported to the Wapello County Jail where he is being held pending a hearing with a magistrate court judge.
