Mammoth Replica Coming to Mahaska County

A mammoth replica will be displayed in Mahaska County later this month.

On June 27th, 2023, 4:00 PM-8:00 PM, the Mahaska County Conservation Board will be hosting an Open House at the Environmental Learning Center 2342 Hwy 92 Oskaloosa IA to celebrate the arrival of the full-body mammoth Replica.

In 2012 there was a huge discovery of bones from multiple Woolly mammoths located approximately five miles east of Oskaloosa. This was the first scientific evidence of a population of mammoths in Iowa. Since its discovery, the Mammoth has impacted the local culture
and now, we are ready to celebrate.

With the Generosity of the MidwestOne Community Impact Grant, it is now possible for people to see a full-body replica of a Mammoth at the Environmental Learning Center.

The public is invited to enjoy refreshments and learn about the unique natural history of Mahaska County. Overflow parking will be at the Vet Clinic directly East of the ELC. A Tram will function as a shuttle to the event. There will be shortened tram tours available for guests.
