Reese Christopher Jones, 19, of Ottumwa, died at 9:23 p.m. May 20, 2023 at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.

He was born June 17, 2003 in Ottumwa to Michael Douglas and Brenda Kay Haff Jones Jr.

Growing up, Reese was a member of Cornhuskers 4-H Club. A 2021 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he ran cross country and was a member of the wrestling team and trap shooting team. He was also a member of JROTC and Raiders.

Reese received his basic training with the Iowa Army National Guard in Fort Sill, OK and graduated from AIT in Fort Lee, VA on December 15, 2021 as a 91B wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was an E-4 Specialist with the Iowa Army National Guard Unit #3654 SNC, where he was a mechanic. Reese worked at HyVee in high school and was currently working in construction.

He attended The Bridge Church and was responsible for overseeing the Bridge Kids Group. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting and building motorcycles and cars.

Surviving are his parents, Michael and Brenda Jones Jr.; his brother, Trenton Jones (Libby Lenoch); his sister, Lizzy Jones; grandparents, Steven Haff, Michael and Gail Jones Sr.; aunts and uncles, Jennifer (Nathan) Joyce, James Haff and Cheryl Lisle; cousins, Jacob and Matthew Joyce, Chelby (Cedrick) Figueloa, Emilia Sanchez (Kendal), Alex Sanchez, Gabriel Sanchez and Jessika Jones.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nancy Kay Haff.

Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25th at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 26th at Reece Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Iowa Army National Guard. Cremation will follow the services.

Memorials may be made to The Bridge Church or in honor of Reese’s service to Iowa Department of Public Defense for Family Programs.Hide
