An Ottumwa woman is accused of making a series of fraudulent transactions that resulted in her depriving her employer of around $10,000.

23-year-old Chloe Hartley has been charged with first-degree theft and ongoing criminal conduct.

Court records say from September 2022 to April 2023, Hartley used her employment status at Hy-Vee to return numerous items and claim the resultant returns. Hartley is also accused of selling merchandise and keeping the money to purchase items for herself instead of returning the money to the business.

Additionally, Ottumwa police say Hartley selected several lottery tickets and claimed the winnings from them without purchasing the tickets.

Hartley was arrested on May 6 and transported to the Wapello County Jail. She is currently free after posting a $25,000 bond.
