Robert McReynolds, 88, of Richland, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Robert Earl McReynolds, son of Harry Earl and Gertrude (Decker) McReynolds, was born September 9, 1934, in Fairfield, Iowa. He was raised in Richland and was a 1951 graduate of Richland High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Gillis, on May 24, 1953, at the Richland Friends Church. They made their home in Richland, and Bob was hired by the Brighton Telephone Company. Over the next few years, Bob worked for Amana Refrigeration and Louden’s Manufacturing in Fairfield. He later established Bob’s Refrigeration and A.C. Service out of Richland. In 1965, Bob was hired in maintenance at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. He remained in the position until his retirement in 1995. In addition to his responsibilities at the hospital, Bob served as a pastor, for six years, at the Fairfield Friends Church. He enjoyed shepherding his congregation, sharing his faith, and leading Bible study groups. In his free time, Bob also enjoyed woodworking.

His family includes his six children: Linda (Tim) Mickels of Richland, Bev (Steve) Topping of Richland, Chris (Lonnie) Hesseltine of Fairfield, Jean (Bill) Blake of Oskaloosa, Pat McReynolds of Richland, and Bob (Sandra) McReynolds of Hedrick; and 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

As was Bob’s wish, his body has been cremated, and a memorial service for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Lake Darling State Park Lodge. The family will greet visitors from 9:30 to service time. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, north of Richland, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House.
