James Allan “Jimmy” ‘Jake” Jacobs, 55, of Ottumwa, died at 11:25 p.m. February 18, 2023 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
He was born December 16, 1967 in Ottumwa to Arthur E. and Patricia A. Gesling Jacobs. He married Karen Renee Blumer March 4, 1989.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jim served in the Iowa Army National Guard, stationed in Germany during Desert Storm. Jim worked 34 years for JBS, currently as Shipping Manager.
Jim coached his kids in baseball and softball and was a “dance dad.” He was a fisherman and river rat, loved his dog and NASCAR and was a Vikings fan. He loved being a husband, dad and grandpa.
Surviving is his wife, Karen; their children, Nickolas Jacobs (fiancé, Viviana Villa-Angeles) of Ottumwa and Desiree Jacobs-Armstrong of Bloomfield; 3 grandchildren, Trysten, Milo and Aubrey; his mother, Pat Jacobs of Ottumwa; and brother, Bill Jacobs of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Art Jacobs; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Margaret Blumer; and his dog, Bear.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23rd at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 24th at Reece Funeral Home with his cousin, Rev. Jay Allison officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. The service will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service.
