Phyllis Yates, 84, of Oskaloosa, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 30, 2022, after passing at the Oskaloosa Care Center.

Phyllis Elaine Yates, daughter of Cleo Laverne and Lorena (Owens) Allgood, was born on January 9, 1938, in Beacon, Iowa. She was one of 13 children and grew up in the Eddyville area. Phyllis was a 1956 graduate of Eddyville High School. Upon graduation, she worked at the local telephone office as an operator in Oskaloosa. Phyllis met the love of her life, Harley Yates, and they were united in marriage on September 15, 1961. They began their life together on a farm in the South English, Iowa, area. In addition to life on the farm, Phyllis worked a short period in Amana, Iowa, building one of the earliest versions of the Radar Range by Amana, known today as the microwave. As life would have it, Phyllis and Harley would move from the farm to Wilton, Iowa, for a job opportunity for Harley. Phyllis finished her working years with over 20 years of service serving Wilton Community School District as the Food Services Manager for the school lunch program. With that said, her true passion in life was to be a homemaker, devoted wife, and loving mother who will always be remembered as caring, generous, and faithful.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Harley; her children and their families: Craig (Melinda) Yates of Land O Lakes, FL; granddaughters Kelli (Dylan) Payton of Land O Lakes, FL, and Ashley Yates of Edmund, OK; Doug (Julie) Yates of Oskaloosa, and a grandson Rian (Emma) Yates of Richmond, KY. Her siblings and their families also survive her: Ron (Jan Feehan) Allgood of Oskaloosa, Dennis (Marlene) Allgood of Oskaloosa, Joyce (Richard) Emanuel of Oskaloosa, Carmen Allgood of Ozark, MO, Steve (Betty) Allgood of Eddyville, Judy Allgood of Gowrie, and Phyllis Allgood of Wisconsin.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Cleo and Lorena Allgood, along with seven of her siblings: Rex (Marge) Allgood, Billy (Betty) Allgood, Donald (Betty) Allgood, Inez (Curly) Bloodsworth, Jack Allgood, Judy (Les) Cubit, and Larry Allgood.

Phyllis’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2022, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jon Nelson of Central Church officiating. The burial will be at Forest Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be with the family from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial contributions can be made to the family, which they will disperse accordingly. They would also like to express their immense gratitude to the wonderful and fantastic caregivers at the Oskaloosa Care Center and to the young ladies who provided hospice services for their mothers.
