The names of the subject and the officer who wounded the former in a Mount Pleasant shooting were released on Thursday by authorities.

33-year-old Samantha Shumaker has been charged with domestic abuse and false imprisonment.

On December 3rd, members of the Mount Pleasant Police Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in Mount Plesant due to a domestic incident. Law enforcement says Shumaker was holding a male at gunpoint in the home.

Once authorities arrived at the scene, Shumaker was allegedly brandishing a gun and ignored officers’ orders to put the weapon down. Shumaker was shot in the arm by Deputy Carlos Lopez of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Shumaker received immediate first aid from officers and was transported to the hospital.

Lopez has been interviewed by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and will remain on Critical Incident Leave pending an investigation. Lopez has two years and eight months of law enforcement experience.

Shumaker is currently free after posting a $3,000 bond. She has been ordered to not have any contact with the male victim.
