Joyce Cole


Joyce Arlene Story Cole, 78 of Keosauqua passed away at her home on Saturday October 29, 2022.  Visitation will open at 2:00PM with family present 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday November 2, 2022 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.  Funeral service for Joyce will be at 10:30AM on Thursday November 3, 2022 at Pedrick Funeral Home with Larry Shipley officiating.  Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery immediately following the service.  Memorials to EveryStep Hospice or Bonaparte Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 24100 Queen Avenue, Keosauqua, IA 52565.

Joyce was born on December 25, 1943 in Kirksville, MO to Jack and Sarah Payne Story.  She grew up and lived her life in Van Buren County and graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1961.  Joyce married Virgil D. Cole on January 6, 1975 in Kahoka, MO, he passed away on July 28, 2010.

Joyce had worked at State Central Bank in Bonaparte.  She and Virgil owned and operated Cole Construction and farmed, she was actively involved with both until her passing.  Joyce and Virgil enjoyed snowmobiling, riding side-by-sides and boating on the Mississippi River on their house boat ”The Lucky Lady”.  Through the years they raised and had shown Appaloosa Horses and was member of the Bonaparte Saddle Club.  She was an avid reader, Chicago Bulls basketball fan and enjoyed watching the purple martins and her cats and dogs while sitting on her deck.  Joyce was a caring, kind and compassionate women.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Justin Cole (Laura) and Dean Cole (Sherry) of Bonaparte, grandchildren, Wyatt Cole (Maddie), Natalie (Heath) and Russell, a great-grandchild, Brayleigh, a sister, Azalee Evans (J.O.), a nephew, Jason Evans (Denise), great-nephew, Colton, a great-niece, Franki Evans and other relatives and many friends.  In addition to her parents and Husband she was preceded in death by nephews, J.D. Evans and Jack Evans.
