Dennis Lee Durflinger, 74, of Eldon, died at 7:25 p.m. October 21, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born November 7, 1947 in Ottumwa to Warren and Betty Redman Durflinger. He married Patricia Louise Carter February 11, 1967.

A 1965 graduate of Cardinal High School, he started working at Woerner Oil Station. In 1975 he started working for Home Oil at the Eldon Y. He later purchased the station and changed the name to D’s Eldon Y where he was known for his breakfast pizza, operating until his retirement in 2017.

Denny loved his family, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed chatting with his customers and friends at the station, playing slow pitch softball with his Rooster teammates, going to Prairie Meadows with his buddies, and as we all know, no one could make a better breakfast pizza. He also loved spending time with all of his grandkids and attended many of their sporting events, always reminding them that “all they could do was the best they could do.”

Surviving is his wife, Patty; their two children, Tonya (Rodney) Frotz of Benton, LA and Deron (Amanda) Durflinger of Van Meter; a neighbor boy who was like a son, Bill (Amy) Steele of Agency; six grandchildren, Jordan (Johnathan) Bush, Bret Frotz, Emma, J.J., Josie and Carter Durflinger; two sisters, Loreda (Dean) Watson of Ottumwa and Mae (Jerry) Courtney of Eldon; his “favorite” brother, Leon Durflinger (Ellie) of Batavia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a step-father, Thomas Edwards.

Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Thursday, October 27th at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 28th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Peterson of Eldon United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will follow the service. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cardinal A-Club or the Eldon United Methodist Church.
