Billie Lee Hotek, 96, of Ottumwa, died at 3:05 p.m. October 23, 2022 at home.
He was born September 29, 1926 in Fort Dodge to Raymond Rudolph “Happy” and Velda Dayton Hotek. Bill married Pauline Jane Smith on February 1, 1947 in Fort Dodge and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2017.
Growing up in Otho, IA, he served 2 years with the U.S. Navy serving in the Philippines. He attended Iowa State University Ag School through the GI bill and came home to farm in Gowery, IA. In 1956 he started working for Northwestern Telephone Co. in Freeport, IL, retiring in 1989.
Bill was a member of and served as steward for IBEW. He loved to fish and garden and as a young boy enjoyed trapping.
Surviving are his children, David Hotek of Clarendon Hills, IL, Tim (Denise) Hotek of Ottumwa, Terri Hotek (Mark Hoffman) of Bloomfield, Doug Hotek of Mystic, Rod (Hope) Hotek of Birmingham, Nick Hotek of Iowa City, Ed (Erin) Hotek of Washington, IA and Andy (Tammy) Hotek of Mystic; 13 grandchildren, Amanda Burnett, Melissa Linebaugh, Kirsten Erdmier, Danica Hoffman, Eli Hoffman, Leanne Hotek, Taylor Hotek, Joseph Hotek, Matt Hotek, Cole Hotek, Kiefer Hotek, Jazmine Edmonds and Zac Hotek; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Roberta “Bobbee” Lindstrom of Grimes and Rajiv Hotek of Yreka, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Spencer Hotek.
His body has been cremated. No services are planned.
