An Ottumwa man was arrested after authorities say he damaged property at a local business and threatened an employee with a knife.

Kevin Geovanny Laines, 21, has been charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Court records say at 3:03 PM on September 3rd, Laines got into an argument with an employee at Iowa Liquor and Tobacco on East Main Street. Laines became agitated and armed himself with a pocketknife.

Laines allegedly stabbed a Plexiglass window and a computer monitor with the knife. Police say Laines also approached the employee in a manner that made the victim feel threatened before exiting the store.

Laines was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail.

Laines was freed after posting a $2,000 bond on September 6th. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 12th.
