Patricia “Patty” Ann Ballanger (Zaputil), age 79, entered eternal life on June 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Patty was born August 16, 1942, in Centerville, IA to Joseph John Zaputil & Dorothy Jean Best-Zaputil.  She attended Mystic schools until her senior year, then graduated from Centerville High School, Class of 1960.

On August 27, 1960, Patty married the love of her life, Franklin Eugene Ballanger in the Catholic Church of Mystic.  To this union, five children were born: Doug, Marcia, Todd, Angela & Eric.

It was very important for her to be at home to care for her growing family, so she was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest started kindergarten, as well as playing a big part in the family farming business.  For many years Patty worked in the Insurance business at McDanel Insurance on the Centerville square. She was very active with her family and was involved in many activities at Moravia High School, such as the Music Boosters, athletic fundraisers and the Fall Festival.

Patty enjoyed many years of camping with close friends at Lake Rathbun as well as the Iowa State Fair, where she was the State Fair Accordion champion two years in a row. The accordion was a very big part of her life.  Patty’s Croatian grandfather taught her to play beginning at the young age of five.

Patty raised many pups and champion dogs for many years.  She was very respected throughout the Fox Hound dog world, because she had an ability to raise top of the line champion dogs.  They were like her second family.

Patty loved following Todd’s music quartet – The Gentleman Four.  She was their biggest fan. The biggest accomplishment in her eyes were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Patty loved each of them very much and was very proud to be their grandma & Momo.

Left to cherish Patty’s memory is her husband, Frank of almost 62 years; her children, Doug (Marsha) Ballanger, Marcia (Mark) Bratz, Todd (Kris) Ballanger, Angela (Shawn) Sanderlin & Eric (Breanna) Ballanger; her grandchildren, Jenni (Jason) Bratz-Kurzer, Brandon (Lynsey) Bratz, Jacob Ballanger & Jared Ballanger, Courtney Ballanger, Maxx Ballanger & Tucker Ballanger; bonus grandchildren, Mark Isaac Mosley, Matthew Mosley, Melia (Jeremy) Chapman, Marcie (Matthew) Harryman; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Theo & Dash Ballanger, Leighton Kurzer, and Ronnie Dean; bonus great-grandchildren, Dalton (Ashley) Mosley, Kade Mosley, Jax Mosley, Reese Mosley, Hunter Chapman, Case Chapman, Hattie Chapman, Vincent Sheston, Boaz Harryman, and Ivalee Harryman; and bonus great-great-grandchildren, Haisley Mosley and Luca Mosley. Missing Patty will also be her siblings Joe (Diane) Zaputil, Tom (Mary Sue) Zaputil, Steve (Deb) Zaputil, James (Dorothy) Zaputil & Rick (Donna) Zaputil.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Dorothy Zaputil; sister, Jeanine Bankson; her grandson, Korey Shawn Ballanger; as well as a host of extended family members.
