Lovilia Woman Dies in Alleged Homicide, Man Takes Own Life in Subsequent Standoff

The death of a Monroe County woman led to a standoff at her home which ended with a suicide on Sunday.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received specific information regarding an alleged homicide that occurred days prior in Lovilia. A body of a woman was discovered in rural Monroe County.

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation was called to assist. Special agents and deputies unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with the deceased woman’s husband.

The couple’s home was secured and negotiators tried over the course of several hours to deescalate the situation involving a male subject inside the residence. The man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident remains under investigation. The identities of the deceased were not disclosed.
