David Guy Archer, age 73, of Moulton passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
David was born on January 6, 1949 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Walter LeRoy Archer and Geneva (Burton) Archer. David joined the United States Navy on November 5, 1968. He served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on September 4, 1973. On April 16, 1971, David was united in marriage to Mary Hope Bridgeman in Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union, four children were born, Chris, Chad, Troy and Paula.
David worked for almost 30 years for the Norfolk Southern Railway. He held different positions in the company including as a laborer and machine operator prior to retirement. He also coached minor league and little league for several years.
David was extremely fond of racing cars and watching the races. He was the biggest fan and the best PR man for his sons, Troy and Chris, son-in-law, Casey’s and his grandchildren’s racing. He loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He enjoyed taking his family fishing and trapping with him.
Left to honor David’s memory are his wife of 51 years, Hope Archer; his children, Chris (Ida) Archer of Moulton, Chad (Chrissy) Archer of Centerville, Troy (Glenda) Archer of Rathbun, and Paula (Casey) Lancaster of Glenwood, Missouri; 15 grandchildren, April, Tyson, Tanner, Baby T, Kaitlyn, Kenna, Karson, Peyton, Piper, Patrick, Dylan, Maddi, Bradden, GlenDavid, and LillyGrace; 4 great grandchildren, Caley, Carter, Delilah and Zayden; a brother, Kenneth (Jan) Archer of Ottumwa; sisters-in-law, Susan Archer of Albia and Judy Archer of Ottumwa; his cat, Tigger; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Geneva Archer; brothers, Bobby Archer, William “Bill” Archer, Max Archer and John Archer; a sister, Phyllis Fowler; a brother-in-law, Herman Fowler; and nephews, Jeffrey Allen Archer and Peachy Fowler.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM Monday, July 25, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Military Rites will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Visitation will take place Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville beginning at 12:00PM, with the family greeting friends from 1:00-4:00PM. Cremation will follow the services.
