Billy Lee Herrick, age 83 of Centerville, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.
Billy was born on May 9, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Roy Dean and Wilmoth (Shultz) Herrick. He graduated from Delta High School in Delta, Iowa with the Class of 1956. On April 12, 2001, Billy was united in marriage to Jackie Miller in Centerville, Iowa.
Billy worked for various employers throughout his life. Most recently, he worked for Hawkeye Food Systems as a sales representative, where he retired from in June 2001, after 19 years.
Billy loved NASCAR and watched every race until the death of Dale Earnhardt Sr. After Dale passed, it just wasn’t the same for him. Billy’s ultimate favorite sport was baseball. He played baseball for many years. Every year he could hardly wait for the baseball season to begin and never missed a game he could watch on TV.
Left to honor Billy’s memory are his wife of 21 years, Jackie Herrick of Centerville; his children, Monty (Connie) Herrick of Iowa City, Vicky Hansen of Iowa City, and Kelly Herrick of Sigourney; step children, Steve (Melissa) Crew of Des Moines, Dan (Kathi) Crew of Centerville, and Jaimie (Michael) Conger of Centerville; grandchildren, Jessica (Peter) Blough, Courtney Hansen, Colton Hansen, Leah (Nick) Baker, Skyler Crew, Devin Crew, and Molly Conger; great grandchildren, Dillon Blough, Caleb Blough, Knox Baker and Jett Baker; as well as other family members including nieces, nephews and cousins.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Wilmoth Herrick; a grandson, Travis Herrick; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 10AM, Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Garrett Cemetery, near Delta, Iowa with Pastor Vince Homan officiating.
