Ronald Lee Minear, age 77, of Walnut City, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Unity Point Health, Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Ron was born on September 20, 1944 in Unionville, Missouri, the son of Roy and Elinor Alden (McDannald) Minear.  He attended Unionville Schools in Unionville, Missouri. Ron married Judith Bowman and the couple later divorced. On December 12,1981, Ron was united in marriage to Laurel (Wyatt) Thomas in Urbandale, Iowa.

Ron was a mechanic and a jack of all trades his entire life.  He also managed chicken houses in the poultry industry in his younger years. He worked as the Transportation Director for Centerville Schools for over 12 years, retiring in 2006.  During retirement, Ronald owned his own mechanic business and enjoyed driving the Amish to their destinations. Ronald also maintained the grounds, including lawn care for the Walnut City Christian Church for several years. 

Ron was proud that he was a published poet, who also enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He thoroughly loved his entire family, including his cocker spaniel dogs.

Left to honor Ronald’s memory are his loving wife of over 40 years, Laurel Minear of Walnut City; his children, Tammie (David) Rackow of Mt. Pleasant, Theresa Rogers of Seymour, Michelle (Mike) Gray of Moravia, Tanya (Mark) Kukuzke of Indianola, Shonda (Brian) Endrizal of Indianola, Dawn (Greg) Roemen of Fairfield, Kendra (Jason) Messamaker of Albia, and Nathan Thomas of Beacon; 18 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Shelda Edwards of Minnesota and Shirley (Robert) Brandser of Des Moines; as well as several extended family members.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elinor Minear; twin children, Sarah and Susan; and two brothers-in-law, Merle Wyatt and Jack Edwards.

Per Ronald’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4PM, Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Howard Luscan officiating.  Inurnment will be held at Main Station Cemetery near Moravia at a later date.  Visitation will take place Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 2-4PM.  Memorials may be written to Walnut City Church, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, ATTN: Minear family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com or on our funeral home Facebook page.
