Ronald Gene Graves, 88, of Douds, IA, died Friday, April 1, 2022, in West Branch, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the funeral home and will last until the time of service. Burial with military honors will be held in the Indianola IOOF Cemetery in Indianola, IA at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, Memorial contributions in Ron’s honor may be directed to the Douds Fire and EMS, P.O Box 174, Douds, IA 52551. Ronald Gene Graves was born in rural Lucas County Iowa on August 23, 1933. He graduated from Drake University in 1957. He served in the Air Force after graduation, and he was stationed in Guam. After his active duty was complete, he served in the Air Force Reserve.
Ron married Nancy Gilliland in Indianola, IA in 1955. He lived much of his life in Fairfield, IA where he worked as a comptroller for Louden Machinery Company. After retiring in 1989, he and Nancy moved to rural Douds, Iowa.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Anita Rice and her husband Kevin of Iowa City, two sons: Steven Graves and his wife Sallie of Washington, IA, Jon Graves and his wife Kathy of Ankeny, IA and five grandchildren: Brian Rice, Christopher Rice, Sarah Rice, Anna Graves, Benton Graves; his sister Kay Higgins of Grand Junction, Iowa.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife Nancy (2011), brother Richard Graves and sister Carol Schee.
