Adeline Joy Dommer, 82, of Ottumwa died at 12:18 a.m. April 10, 2022 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born January 2, 1940 in Iowa City to Wilfred Henry and Greta Elizabeth Ours Dommer.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1957, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK. Joy taught elementary school in Oklahoma City from 1961 to 1976. She earned her master’s degree in education from Oklahoma City University, graduating in 1980. She taught in Ottumwa Community Schools from 1980 to 2005 and then part-time at Ottumwa Christian School.
She was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Ottumwa, the National Retired Teachers Association and Hospice Serving Wapello and Davis Counties Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Elaine Miller and Arline Thomas both of Bloomfield; a brother Dewane Dommer of Ottumwa; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dewitt Dommer and Stanley Dommer.
Visitation will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13th at Reece Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Seldon officiating. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Her family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
