Bloomfield Man Charged With 2nd Degree Theft

A Bloomfield man is facing a theft charge following an alleged shoplifting incident in Ottumwa.

According to court documents, at around 4:39 P.M. on April 1, 2022, 39 year old Ashley Von Hohenshell of Bloomfield was reported for shoplifting at the Super Wal-Mart store in Ottumwa. Hohenshell was allegedly observed at the self-checkout scanning only a few of the items he had. The report states that the items were NBA, NFL, and MLB trading cards totaling $2185.94, while Hohenshell only scanned $180.00 worth of cards.

Hohenshell was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Theft, a Class D Felony. He was taken to the Wapello County Jail where he bonded out on April 4. He has waived his preliminary hearing and at this time no further court dates are set.
