Libertyville Firefighter Dies in Line of Duty


A local firefighter died in the line of duty, according to the Libertyville Fire Department.

In a press release, Fire Chief Gerrad Goodrich announced the death of Firefighter Brian Edward Shanstrom. Goodrich says Shanstrom passed away at his home sometime after fighting a grass fire on March 1st. He was 56.

A visitation for Shanstrom will be held on Wednesday, March 9th at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. There will be a Department Walkthrough the same night at 7:00 PM.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 10th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

“Libertyville Fire and Rescue is assisting Firefighter Shantrom’s family and affected emergency services personnel during this difficult time,” goodrich said. “Please keep firefighter Shantrom’s family, and the men and women of our department in your thoughts and prayers.”
