Lucy F. Starr, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 4:08 p.m. November 23, 2021 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born June 8, 1938 in Centerville to Fred and Julia Byte Padavich. Lucy married Larry D. Starr on April 6, 1957 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2000. She married George Rumph on October 25, 2013.
A 1956 graduate of Centerville High School, Lucy had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1957. She worked for 7 years at KLEE radio and for 25 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works as a secretary, retiring in 1998.
Lucy was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, Altar and Rosary Society, GOVAP, Chapter IN of P.E.O. and Dare to Dream Committee at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was an active fund raiser in many school and athletic organizations and was active in fundraising for Heartland Humane Society. She taught swimming at the YMCA and Beach Ottumwa for over 40 years.
Surviving is her husband, George; her children, Audrey Van Ness, Larry B. (Diana) Starr, Dan (JoAnn) Starr and Dana (Todd) Warnecke; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; George’s two children, Janet (Ernie) Huben, Brian (Marcie) Rumph and their 4 children; and her sister, Anne Moorman of Modesto, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Starr; a sister, Kathryn Baughman; and a son-in-law, Dwayne Van Ness.
Visitation will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 28th, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 29th, at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father James Betzen C.PP.S. presiding. For those unable to attend, the Mass may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.
Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.
