Laurie Jane Dorothy, 91, of Keosauqua died on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. As were her wishes her body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials in Laurie’s name will be directed to the Keosauqua Methodist Church and may be mailed to the family at 807 Country Lane Road, Keosauqua, IA 52565. She was born on August 28,1930 to John Anthony (Tony) Jessica (Gypsy) Sherry in Davenport Iowa. She attended school in Revere, Missouri and graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1948. Laurie graduated from nurses training in 1951 and married Jack Dorothy in Keosauqua later that year. She lived most of her life in Keosauqua, where she worked as a nurse in office (Worell and Furumoto) and hospital settings, before starting the Van Buren County Public Health Nursing Service in 1967.
She was an active member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church and past member of PEO, Board of Health, Hospital Auxiliary and Good Samaritan Care Center Advisory Board.
In 1996, along with her husband, Jack, received the Keosauqua Outstanding Citizen of the Year award.
Her passion in life was caring for others, until her health prevented her from continuing those efforts. She enjoyed time with her family, following University of Iowa sports and St. Louis Cardinals and listening to Van Buren sports on the radio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sister, Arlene Scotts Brombaugh. Surviving are daughter Joan (Mike) Hodges of Wapello, son Bob (Lyn) Dorothy of Quincy, IL and daughter Connie (Mike) Steinbach of Centerville; grandchildren, Bob (Elissa) Hodges, Ben (Courtnee) Hodges, Adam Steinbach, Emily (Dan) Swehla, Megan Dorothy, Val Critser, Kimber (Ryan) Stark and great-grandchildren, Madeline, Abigail, Tyson, Emerson and Harvey.
