Goldie Maxine Applegate, 92, of Ottumwa, passed away at 12:33 p.m. September 12, 2020 at Hospice House in Ottumwa after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born March 3, 1928 in Agency to George Walter and Goldie Mabel Skirvin Box. She married William Jack “Bill” Applegate August 19, 1946. He preceded her in death April 24, 2014.
A 1945 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she earned her Normal Teaching Certificate. She taught at Nasby Country School one year before she was married. She was a homemaker caring for 5 children and was an excellent seamstress.
Left to honor her memory is a son, Gary (Debi) Applegate of Ottumwa; twin daughters, Brenda Ellen (Bob) Kimmel of Ottumwa and Brenna Elaine (Greg) Roth of Rapid City, SD; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Terry Applegate and Larry Applegate; a great-grandson, Myles Bell; two brothers, Elmer “Sommer” Box and Frank Box; two sisters, Ruth L. Heckart and Ellen Isabelle Woodruff.
Limited open visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 14th at Reece Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 15th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. For those wishing to view the service live, you may do so on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
