An ag real estate specialist says farmland values are holding strong in southern Iowa.
Tim Meyer is the owner of Midwest Ag Exchange, based out of Henry County.
“It’s not hard to find $180 a point on really good ground, or even higher,” he said. “I don’t really understand it.”
He tells Brownfield he doesn’t expect prices to slip anytime soon.
“Just because the demand is that high even with the price of interest,” Meyer said. “I don’t think that interest going up is going to affect the land price.”
Meyer says competition from buyers outside the local area has become more common.
“The sad reality of it is that the folks that are buying ground today are not primarily only farmers,” Meyer said.
He says the makeup of the buyer pool looks much different than it did five years ago.
