A freeze warning has been issued for Wapello County, including Ottumwa, for early Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service says temperatures could drop as low as 31 degrees, with the warning in effect from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, October 17.
Freezing temperatures and frost could damage or kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be at risk.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions before temperatures drop. Bring potted plants indoors, cover sensitive vegetation and protect exposed outdoor pipes as needed.
Residents should also keep an eye on local weather updates as colder conditions move into the area.
