Wapello County residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed Jail Expansion and Renovations project during a public forum Thursday evening, October 8.
The forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Blakesburg Elementary School. Representatives from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office will be available to provide information about the proposed project and answer questions from residents.
The proposed jail project is part of a $45 million bond referendum that will appear on the November 3, 2026, General Election ballot. If approved, the bond would provide funding for improvements to the existing Wapello County Jail, including an expansion of the facility and related grounds and site improvements.
County information indicates the proposed project would increase the jail’s capacity from 216 beds to 316 beds and include renovations to areas such as the kitchen and laundry, along with other improvements.
The public forum is open to residents who have questions or would like to learn more about the proposal before voters decide on the measure.
The Wapello County Jail Expansion and Renovations Bond Referendum will be decided by voters on November 3.
