New reporting from the Hometown Current, carpetbagger and career political operative Zach Lahn’s supposed hometown paper, highlights how Iowans in Belle Plaine know that he lives in Kansas.
The Hometown Current spoke with Benton County residents at the annual Cider Stroll in Belle Plaine, and “residents who chose to comment” told the paper they “either didn’t know Lahn or saw him as an outsider.”
Here’s what Iowans in Belle Plaine are saying about Zach Lahn living in Kansas:
- Van Horne resident Wendy Howard: “I don’t see him as a local person. He’s an interloper.”
- Benton County resident Wendy Howard: “She doesn’t see gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn as a local guy.”
- Keystone resident Christine Meeks: “He lives in Kansas.”
- Belle Plaine resident Linda Van Hamme: “I don’t see him as local … to me he just came in and bought [stuff] to look local so he could run for governor.”
- Belle Plaine resident Lisa Garlag: “Confidently said that Lahn is not a local guy.”
- Belle Plaine resident Larissa McClenathan: “She’d never heard of Lahn before he started his run for governor.”
- Belle Plaine resident Nona Paulsen: “I don’t know him.”

“It’s no surprise that Kansas carpetbagger and career political operative Zach Lahn can’t even lock down support in his own ‘backyard’ because Iowans in Belle Plaine see right through his lies about where he lives. Iowans don’t want a part-time resident as their next governor, and that’s why they’ll send Lahn back to Kansas in November.”
