Michael Joseph McKay, 79, of Ottumwa, died at 3:18 a.m. September 7, 2026 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa in the memory care unit under hospice care.
He was born August 3, 1947 in Ottumwa to Charles A. McKay and Lucille D. Pechacek McKay Roberts.
A graduate of Walsh High School in Ottumwa and Drake University in Des Moines, Mike was a resident of Ottumwa for most of his life. He ran his own bar in Ottumwa for a number of years. He was a good friend and brother and a good companion to his beloved poodles.
Surviving is a sister, Patricia (Itzhak) Matusiak of Glendale, WI; her son, Ari (Marrisa) Matusiak of Del Mar, CA; he was an uncle to Ari’s children, Gabrielle and Maia; a stepbrother, Roy (Nancy) Roberts of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Timothy McKay and Robert McKay; and his later life companion, Susan Wolf; stepfather, Dr. Justice Roberts; stepsister, Alice Burke.
Mike passed away peacefully, his body has been cremated. No formal services will be held.
