A Van Buren County woman is facing a misdemeanor assault charge after allegedly getting into a physical fight with her sibling inside a moving vehicle, causing the sibling to jump from the truck.

Hannah Mehrhoff, 25, has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury or Mental Illness, a serious misdemeanor. The alleged incident occurred at approximately 9:58 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th.

According to court documents, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possibly intoxicated driver leaving Keosauqua in a red truck. A second report from Farmington indicated a female was acting intoxicated while getting gas at a gas station. A deputy located the vehicle and followed it until it stopped at a campground at a horse ranch in Farmington.

The deputy spoke with both occupants of the vehicle, who showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. Mehrhoff, identified as the driver, told the deputy she had been driving erratically because she and her sibling had gotten into a fight in the truck. When asked where the sibling was, Mehrhoff said the sibling had gotten out of the vehicle after a physical altercation between the two.

Shortly after, the sheriff’s office received a report that an individual needed medical attention after jumping from a moving vehicle. The sibling was located at a Farmington residence, having sustained hand injuries from the physical fight as well as a very swollen lip. EMS treated them at the scene and transported them to Van Buren County Hospital.

Mehrhoff was transported to the Van Buren County Jail and later released on her own recognizance with a requirement to appear at all hearings. A no contact order was requested in the case. As of August 17th, no charges related to impaired driving had been filed in connection with the incident.
