The trucking industry, law enforcement and Special Olympics Iowa supporters will once again come together this fall for the annual Truck Convoy for Special Olympics Iowa, a statewide fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics athletes.
The 2026 Truck Convoy is scheduled for Saturday, October 17. The event begins at Veterans Parkway (Highway 5, Exit 101) in West Des Moines, where Iowa law enforcement officers will escort participating trucks on a 20-mile route to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
The convoy is a national one-day event that brings together truck drivers, allied partners and law enforcement to raise money for Special Olympics Iowa. Once the convoy arrives at the fairgrounds, Special Olympics Iowa athletes and families, community organizations, businesses and law enforcement agencies will welcome participants for lunch, a celebration and an awards ceremony recognizing the truckers for their continued support.
Registration costs $125 per truck. Those interested can register online or complete the registration form included in the event brochure and mail it in with a cash or check payment. Event organizers are also seeking sponsors to support this year’s convoy.
A variety of trucks are welcome to participate, including semi-trucks, truck and trailer combinations, fire trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, buses, large tow trucks and large box trucks. All vehicles must have a gross vehicle weight of at least 10,000 pounds. Trucks carrying hazardous materials or displaying alcohol or tobacco names or logos are not permitted.
The day’s schedule includes registration and check-in from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by a mandatory drivers’ meeting at 10 a.m. A live auction for lead truck positions begins at 10:15 a.m., with the convoy departing at 10:30 a.m. The event concludes with a celebration at the Iowa State Fairgrounds beginning at noon.
