A local incident involving suspected shoplifting led to police intervention at a retail store, where officers responded to reports of stolen merchandise and quickly identified a suspect in possession of the items.
On March 4 at approximately 7:51 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of theft at Bomgaars.
Upon arrival, officers located a 32-year-old Ottumwa resident, Kamyrn Denham, in possession of stolen merchandise. According to a criminal complaint, store employees observed Denham conceal items in a bag and leave the store without paying. It was reported that Denham placed the items into a vehicle before leaving store property.
Officers also noted that Denham was wearing two items reported stolen from the store, including a T-shirt and a pair of shoes.
Records indicate Denham has two prior convictions in Wapello County dating back to 2013.
Denham was taken into custody and initially held at the Wapello County Jail before being released on bond. She has waived her preliminary hearing and is facing a charge of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor.
