The 367-acre Newton Rail Park Industrial Site has received State Certification from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, marking a significant step forward in efforts to attract new businesses and industry to the area.

The announcement was made during a recent Newton City Council meeting by the Newton Development Corporation. City leaders view the certification as a major advancement in promoting the site, as it allows the state to actively market the property to prospective companies and developers on a broader scale.

With the certification in place, the site will now be included in statewide economic development outreach, increasing its visibility to industries considering expansion or relocation. Local officials believe this added exposure will significantly strengthen recruitment efforts and improve the chances of securing new investment.

The certification process was extensive and required coordination among multiple partners. Key contributors included the Iowa Interstate Railroad, along with support from Jasper County, the City of Newton, local utility providers, and regional economic development groups.

Officials also emphasized that no city funds were used to secure the certification. Instead, the effort was supported through collaboration among regional partners, highlighting a shared commitment to advancing economic growth in the Newton area.

Leaders say interest in the Newton Rail Park remains steady, with ongoing discussions and inquiries from potential developers as work continues to bring new opportunities to the site.
