State Representative Hans Wilz (R-Ottumwa) officially announced today that he will seek re-election to the Iowa House of Representatives for District 25. A lifelong resident of Ottumwa and a local small business owner for over 30 years, Wilz remains committed to advocating for fiscal responsibility, government efficiency, and the well-being of southern Iowa families.

Since first taking office in 2023, Representative Wilz has established himself as a pragmatic leader with a focus on streamlining state government and protecting the pocketbooks of his constituents.

“It has been the honor of my life to represent the community that raised me,” said Wilz. “As a business owner, I know that you are only as good as your inputs to get a quality output. I’ve spent my terms in Des Moines working to ensure that Iowans get the best possible return on their tax dollars. There is more work to be done to keep Iowa affordable, and I am ready to continue that fight.”

Throughout his previous terms, Representative Wilz has championed several key initiatives and served in critical leadership roles in five committees: Appropriations, Commerce, Environmental Protection, Health and Human Services, and State Government. Representative Wilz is the Chair of the Federal and Other Funds Appropriations Subcommittee, where Wilz has overseen the responsible allocation of resources, ensuring transparency in how state and federal dollars are utilized.

Representative Wilz’s 2026 platform will continue to prioritize property tax transparency, energy affordability, and increased transparency in government spending.

“I’ve always believed in listening first,” Wilz added. “My door is always open to the people of District 25, and I look forward to meeting with neighbors across the district in the coming months to discuss how we can make Iowa the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Speaker of the Iowa House Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) expressed his support for Wilz.

“You can count on Hans Wilz to give 100% for his district,” Grassley said. “He does not shy away from hard work. In fact, he’s always looking for more ways he can work to deliver for his district, like stepping up to serve as the Chairman of the Federal and Other Funds Appropriations Subcommittee and serving on the Government Efficiency Task Force. Wilz is a dedicated public servant and I look forward to continuing our work in the Iowa House.”

The Iowa Primary Election is scheduled for June 2, 2026, followed by the General Election on November 3, 2026.
