Ottumwa firefighters responded to an early-morning house fire in the 100 block of East Fifth Street.
According to Deputy Chief David Cronin, the Ottumwa Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 3:05 a.m. to 128 E. Fifth Street after a report of a structure fire. Fire crews arrived to find a house on fire and quickly began working to contain the flames.
Cronin said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
During the incident, North Market Street and East Fifth Street were temporarily closed to traffic while firefighters worked at the scene.
By about 5:15 a.m., Deputy Chief Cronin announced that the fire had been extinguished. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is pending further investigation.
