A Pulaski man is facing a serious misdemeanor charge following an investigation into erratic driving in Milton.

Owen Sederburg, 20, was charged Tuesday, March 3rd with Operating While Under the Influence – First Offense, after a Van Buren County deputy conducted a traffic stop in connection with the complaint.

According to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 9:30 p.m. a deputy responded to a report of erratic driving in Milton. While searching for the vehicle, another individual contacted the sheriff’s office reporting multiple vehicles at a residence attempting to start an altercation. The caller identified Sederburg as the driver of one of the vehicles leaving the area and alleged he was driving intoxicated.

Court documents state the deputy located and stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Coal and Meadow Streets, identifying Sederburg as the driver. According to the criminal complaint filed by Van Buren County Deputy Sheriff Spencer Rider, Sederburg had red, bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred and mumbled speech, and a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. Authorities say Sederburg admitted to consuming five to seven alcoholic drinks that evening.

Sederburg performed standardized field sobriety tests and failed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests. A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of .186 percent. After implied consent was invoked, Sederburg provided a breath sample on the Datamaster machine, which recorded a result of .150 percent BAC.

Sederburg was arrested and later released from custody following his initial court appearance. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for March 19th.
