A new dining destination is bringing classic Italian flavors and a warm, inviting atmosphere to downtown Ottumwa with the arrival of Amore Italian Restaurant, a newly opened eatery designed to blend traditional cuisine with a cozy, romantic setting.
Located on East Main Street, the restaurant features rustic brick walls, a decorative tin ceiling, and comfortable booth seating that creates an intimate dining experience. Red heart ornaments and soft string lights hang overhead, giving the space a charming ambiance that complements its menu of Italian favorites, including classic pasta dishes and pizza.
The restaurant is the vision of Cathy, a restaurateur who has spent several years in the Italian dining industry and set out to create a welcoming space focused on both quality food and community connection.
On February 26th, Amore will also host the kickoff of a new initiative organized by Main Street Ottumwa called the Downtown Lunch Club. The program encourages residents, workers, and visitors to gather once a month at a featured downtown restaurant, purchase their own meals, and enjoy time together while supporting local establishments.
Kris Patrick, executive director of the organization, said the concept is meant to provide a simple but meaningful boost to small businesses. By bringing groups together to intentionally dine local on the same day, the effort aims to increase visibility, generate energy downtown, and strengthen community connections.
The Lunch Club will rotate locations each month so different restaurants can benefit from the added foot traffic. Organizers say there is no membership requirement or formal program—just an open invitation for anyone who wants to take part in supporting downtown businesses while sharing a meal.
Community members are encouraged to watch for future event dates and locations as the initiative continues throughout the year, with Amore serving as the first gathering spot for the monthly tradition.
