Authorities Alert Community to Fraudulent Calls Seeking Bail Money

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam targeting families of incarcerated individuals. Authorities report that callers are impersonating local sheriff’s offices and attempting to collect fraudulent “bail bond money.”

Officials emphasize that the sheriff’s office will never call individuals to request bail payment over the phone. In Henry County, legitimate bail bonds must be posted either online or in person at the Henry County Courthouse.

Residents who receive suspicious calls are urged to hang up immediately and contact local law enforcement to report the incident. Officials say reporting these scams helps investigators track patterns and warn others before more victims are targeted.

To help reduce unwanted scam calls, consumers can register their phone numbers with the Federal Trade Commission’s National Do Not Call Registry. Registration is available online or by phone and is free of charge.
