January 29, 2026 – Court Case Update
Darrell Cosgrove, of Ottumwa, is scheduled for an initial appearance hearing today, January 29, 2026, in connection with charges of Violation of a No Contact/Protective Order – Contempt, a simple misdemeanor.
Incident Background:
On August 9, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Albia Road regarding a suspicious person behind an apartment building. Upon contact, law enforcement identified Darrell Cosgrove, who was found to be the subject of three active protective orders.
According to court documents, the protected party was hiding in the woods approximately 50 feet behind Cosgrove. A witness observed Cosgrove and the victim together. Cosgrove was subsequently arrested for violating a protective order after the victim emerged from the woods, hugged Cosgrove, and apologized.
Legal Proceedings:
Cosgrove was taken to the Wapello County Jail on charges of Violation of a No Contact/Protective Order – Contempt, a simple misdemeanor. A surety bond of $1,000 was set on August 9, 2024, and was posted on August 10, 2024. A pretrial conference has been held, and proceedings were ongoing.
On January 28, 2026, a warrant was served for Cosgrove’s arrest, and he was transported back to the Wapello County Jail before being released.
