A Monroe County man was found unconscious near railroad tracks in rural Monroe County on Monday afternoon and later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Sheriff Joe Worth and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 1:16 p.m. on January 26th, the Monroe County Communications Center received an emergency call regarding an unconscious male located near the railroad tracks in the vicinity of the 1300 block of Highway 5.
Deputies, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders began providing medical care on-site before the individual was transported to Monroe County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The deceased was identified as Bret Major of Lovilia, Iowa, a rural town in Monroe County.
Preliminary investigations are currently underway with assistance from the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death has not been released pending the medical examiner’s findings.
No further information is available at this time.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by multiple agencies in responding to the incident, including Monroe County Communications Center, Albia Fire Department, Lovilia Fire Department, Monroe County Ambulance, Monroe County Hospital, Mercy Two Medical Helicopter, Albia Police Department, and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
