Main Street Ottumwa announced today that the beta version of MainSuite, a new custom-built operations and engagement platform, is now live and in active use by staff and invited volunteers. The launch marks a major milestone in the organization’s efforts to modernize its internal systems, reduce administrative friction and strengthen the way it delivers events, programs and volunteer experiences in downtown
Ottumwa.
MainSuite was developed specifically by Main Street Ottumwa Marketing Specialist Zach Simonson, with the broader goal of building a tool that could also serve other place-based and community development organizations facing similar operational challenges. The platform brings together event management, volunteer coordination, knowledge sharing and internal communications in a single, unified system.
“At its core, MainSuite is about removing barriers that slow people down,” said Kris Patrick, Executive Director of Main Street Ottumwa. “When our staff and volunteers spend less time hunting for information, duplicating work or navigating disconnected tools, they can spend more time doing what really matters: creating great experiences, supporting downtown businesses and building community. This platform helps us do more, and do it better.”
A key feature of MainSuite is its use of artificial intelligence in a practical, grounded way. Rather than focusing on novelty or hype, the platform integrates AI tools such as an in-app chatbot to help users quickly find answers from internal knowledge bases, and a notetaking assistant to support meeting documentation and follow-up. These tools are designed to save time, improve clarity and make institutional knowledge more accessible to both new and long-time volunteers.
“From a board perspective, this is an investment in capacity and sustainability,” said AJ Gevock, President of the Main Street Ottumwa Board of Directors. “Nonprofits and downtown organizations everywhere struggle with limited staff time and increasingly complex demands.

While the current beta is open by invitation to Main Street Ottumwa staff and volunteers, the platform is being developed with the broader Main Street and place-based nonprofit sector in mind. The organization plans to offer demonstrations for peer communities interested in how a unified, AI-enabled system could support their own operations.
