The Wapello County Republican Party has announced the details for its 2026 caucuses, which will take place Monday, February 2, 2026, at Indian Hills Community College’s St. John’s Auditorium, located at 525 Grandview Avenue in Ottumwa.
All precincts will meet at the same location. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., with the caucus officially beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Republicans across Wapello County are encouraged to attend. Participants must be registered Republicans to take part, though voter registration will be available at the caucus. Iowans who are 17 years old and will turn 18 by the November 2026 general election are eligible to register and participate. Families are welcome to attend.
“We are looking forward to the caucus to organize and build the Republican Party in Wapello County,” said GOP Chair Trudy Caviness. “Republicans are excited as we gear up for the 2026 elections; we have great candidates and a clear message.”
The caucus serves as the foundation of the Republican Party’s grassroots organization. During the meeting, attendees will conduct three main items of business: electing members to the Wapello County Republican Central Committee, electing delegates and alternates to the county convention, and submitting planks for the Wapello County Republican platform.
Upcoming conventions are scheduled as follows: the county convention on March 7, the district convention on April 25, and the Iowa Republican State Convention on June 13, 2026.
Those who are not currently registered Republicans may register at the caucus by providing an Iowa driver’s license number, Iowa non-operator ID number, or the last four digits of their Social Security number. Voter registration forms will also be available for new registrations or updates.
