The Pekin speech team delivered strong performances at the District Large Group Speech Contest held Saturday, January 24th, in Centerville, earning multiple top ratings across several categories.
At the district level, one judge evaluates each performance and assigns a rating of I, II, III, or IV (disqualification). Along with the written rating, the judge provides an oral critique to help participants refine their performances. Only groups receiving a I rating qualify to advance to the state competition.
Rating I Performances (Advancing to State):
- Musical Theatre: Rannen Harbison, Tatum Harbison, Zoe Heisdorffer, Ava Heisdorffer, and Zoey Atkinson
- Group Improv: Liam Guise, Dominic Cobler, and Jaxon Mefford
- Group Improv: Will Daniels, Anna Hadley, and Bo Latcham
- Short Film: Conor Cloyd, Rannen Harbison, Tatum Harbison, Hayden Miller, Will Daniels, and Anna Hadley
Rating II Performance:
- Group Improv: Brogan Spray, Zoey Atkinson, and Zoe Heisdorffer
The four groups that earned Rating I performances will advance to the large group state competition at Clear Creek Amana on Tuesday, February 3rd. The impressive district showing positions Pekin’s speech participants well as they prepare for state-level competition.
