The Fairfield bowling teams traveled to Mount Pleasant on Thursday, January 22nd, with both the varsity and JV boys squads earning victories while the girls fell in a competitive match. The varsity boys set a season-high team total of 2,934 points behind multiple outstanding individual performances.
Varsity Girls Results: Mount Pleasant 2,211, Fairfield 2,070
The Trojan girls fell to Mount Pleasant despite several strong performances, including a season-best series from Emma Cass. Cass led Fairfield with a 374 series, rolling games of 180 and 194, both well above her 157 average. Emma Forrest added a 297 series with games of 148 and 149, exceeding her 130 average in both. Savannah Garretson contributed 279 with a personal-best game of 164 in her first game, well above her 91 average, followed by 115. Autumn Rose McBride totaled 228 with games of 126 and 102. Braezyn Stutzman finished with 211, rolling 129 and 82. Brooklyn Gridley also totaled 211, bowling games of 99 and 112, with her second game above her 99 average.
After dropping the low series of 211, Fairfield’s round one team total reached 1,389. The Trojans rolled Baker games of 137, 123, 118, 167, and 136 for a round two total of 681, giving them a match total of 2,070. Mount Pleasant posted a round one team total of 1,445 and a round two Baker total of 766 for a match total of 2,211.
Varsity Boys Results: Fairfield 2,934, Mount Pleasant 2,494
The Trojan boys dominated Mount Pleasant with a season-high team total of 2,934 points, led by an incredible performance from Blake Ballew. Ballew threw a massive 492 series with games of 235 and 257, both far above his 159 average. Dayson Workman added 387 with games of 206 and 181, exceeding his 153 average. Corbin Starr contributed 379, bowling 187 and 192, both above his 150 average. Henry Swan totaled 334 with games of 197 and 137. Eli Aplara finished with 318, rolling 136 and 182. Aaron Carlson rounded out the scoring with 257, bowling games of 121 and 136.
After dropping the low series of 257, Fairfield’s round one team total reached a dominant 1,910. The Trojans rolled exceptional Baker games of 195, 228, 173, 202, and 226 for a round two total of 1,024, giving them a season-high match total of 2,934. Mount Pleasant posted a round one team total of 1,663 and a round two Baker total of 831 for a match total of 2,494.
Junior Varsity Boys Results: Fairfield 2,137, Mount Pleasant 1,882
The Trojan boys JV squad also secured a victory, with every bowler surpassing their average in at least one of their games. Kris Powell led the way with 320, bowling games of 150 and 170, with both exceeding his 139 average. Mason Crew added 301 with games of 114 and 187. Jacob Ryan contributed 283, rolling 127 and 156, with both games above his 119 average. Maxxon Zaragoza totaled 273 with games of 135 and 138. Lucas Burgmeier finished with 246, bowling 139 and 107. Will Bryant rounded out the scoring with 229, rolling games of 102 and 127.
After dropping the low series of 229, Fairfield’s round one team total was 1,423. The Trojans rolled Baker games of 135, 139, 107, 146, and 187 for a round two total of 714, giving them a match total of 2,137. Mount Pleasant posted a round one team total of 1,233 and a round two Baker total of 649 for a match total of 1,882.
Coach’s Perspective
Fairfield head coach Melinda Chatfield celebrated the boys’ achievements and highlighted the girls’ strong individual performances.
On the varsity boys’ season-high performance, Chatfield emphasized the team effort:
“Everyone plays a part when we win and today was no exception. We shot our best series of the season. All the hard work they’ve put in has paid off. Blake Ballew threw an incredible series. Every single one of them are bowling over their practice averages. That’s a great feeling.”
Regarding the girls’ performance despite the loss, Chatfield focused on the positives:
“Even though they didn’t win today, they had a great series! Emma Cass threw her best series this year and Savannah Garretson had a personal best game. All their hard work is paying off.”
Both squads will be back in action on Tuesday, January 27th at Keokuk’s Arrowhead Bowl at 5:00 p.m. for the Southeast Conference Bowling Tournament.
