A Mount Pleasant man is facing multiple charges including second-degree burglary following a reported incident in New London earlier this month.

According to court records, 30-year-old Robin Walton of Mount Pleasant was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred on Wednesday, January 7th at approximately 9 a.m. Walton has been charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony; animal abuse, a serious misdemeanor; assault with intent to cause pain or injury, a simple misdemeanor; and violation of a no contact/protective order – contempt, a simple misdemeanor.

Court documents state that law enforcement responded to a report at a gas station in New London, where the victim contacted police to report a protective order violation.

The investigation revealed that the victim was in her bedroom, located in the attached garage of her mother’s residence, when she heard a loud boom. Upon exiting her room, she found Walton had kicked in the door and entered the garage. The door frame was broken with pieces on the floor.

Court documents state that the victim told Walton they had a protective order and asked him to leave. Walton allegedly punched the victim in the sternum and stated he was there to retrieve his bag.

During the confrontation, the victim’s dog bit Walton. The victim reported that Walton then grabbed the dog by the throat with enough force that it could not move or bark, with the dog’s eyes bulging. The victim stated Walton screamed he was going to kill the animal before releasing it, causing the dog to fall to the floor.

Walton then entered the main residence, retrieved his bag, and returned to the garage, where he allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair and demanded she drive him to Mount Pleasant. The two got into the victim’s van, where Walton allegedly threatened the victim if she pulled into the police station.

The victim told Walton she needed gas before driving to Mount Pleasant. She pulled into the gas station, entered the building, and asked the clerk to call the police.

Police found damage at the residence consistent with the victim’s statement. The gas station clerk corroborated the victim’s account of events, and Walton’s bag was located in the back of the victim’s van.

Court records indicate that Walton and the victim have an active protective order that was issued in September of 2025.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 16th. Walton remains in custody on a $11,000 cash bond.
