Driver Seriously Injured in Rollover Crash on Highway 34 in Jefferson County

A driver was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash late Thursday morning at the intersection of Highway 34 and Dewberry Avenue in Jefferson County.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson County Communications Center received a 911 call at 11:55 a.m. on Thursday, January 8th, reporting a rollover accident with injuries. Deputies arrived on scene at approximately noon and found a Freightliner roll-off truck overturned on its roof in the south-side ditch on the east side of Highway 34.

The truck’s lone occupant was pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated using mechanical means. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center before later being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital for further treatment.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Batavia Fire Department, Fairfield Fire Department, Libertyville Rescue, Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Dispatch, and RPM Towing. Emergency personnel cleared the scene at approximately 2:44 p.m.

The identity of the driver has not been released. The crash remains under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
