Emergency Response Team Resolves Barricade Situation in Agency

On November 19, at approximately 1:00 PM, law enforcement agencies from several counties were dispatched to West Main Street in Agency, following reports of a man barricaded in a house, threatening self-harm and indicating intentions to set the residence on fire.

The Ottumwa Police Department’s Emergency Response Team entered the house in full tactical gear to assess the situation. After conducting a thorough search, they cleared the premises. Sheriff Don Phillips of Ottumwa confirmed that the house was vacant at the time of the response. During the search, a small fire was discovered in the fireplace in the basement.

Following the response team’s exit from the house, Sheriff Phillips provided a statement, confirming that the situation had been resolved without incident. He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.
