Harvest has wrapped up for eastern Iowa farmer Robb Ewoldt.
“Fortunately, we finished up in mid-October. It was off from last year, but last year was an amazing year for us.”
He tells Brownfield several factors led to some yield reductions.
“Some wind came through and some of that corn wasn’t standing as tall as it once was,” he said. “We also had some crop disease come through, especially in our corn with the southern rust everyone has talked about. That affected yields and stalk quality. Now we’re starting to see the results of that.”
Ewoldt says his harvest pace was faster than usual due to a lack of weather delays.
“It was (quick) especially on the corn side because we knew that stalk issue was going to be a problem,” he said. “We pushed it.”
He raises soybeans, corn, alfalfa, and cereal rye in Davenport where he also owns hog finishing and cow/calf operations.
